The original version of "the bridge" was put together for an event at Maryhill Burgh Halls on 27th July 2013, organised by Marta Adamowicz and Stuart Silver. A version of the piece was included on "almost air", titled "three bridges".
For some reason - and very unusually for me - that wasn't the end. In summer 2014, I renewed my interest in the piece and created several other versions from the component parts. None of these would quite come together and, eventually, I took a massive huff with the whole thing and moved on.
Whilst looking for something else entirely, I found the various files on a memory stick. The contents were unexpectedly promising. So, I set to work yet again and here we are. This album consists of some of the original recordings from 2013 and new versions of three of the 2014 editions, all of which have been reworked ("a turning point" was pretty much assembled from scratch).
"the clock in the sky" is a slightly revised take on the original music track from the gig which (sort of) makes it the full length version of "three bridges". The spoken inserts are what they were, being the same takes used in 2013.
Anyway, I think this unusually persistent itch is now scratched. I'm almost over that bridge. Almost...
With love, on what is always the coldest date in my heart's calendar.
