about

This is a compilation of a "secret" project.

I genuinely do not recall why I invented a new band and called her "frosthole" one cold February morning almost exactly a year ago. I do remember that there were rules and they went something like...

1) the releases would be in mono.
2) the artwork would be single blocks of colour.
3) I wouldn't be telling anyone I had made it or that it was even there.

I'd had the name "frosthole" since about 2008/9; the unfathomable title "green / antichrist (god) remember" was found in the same notebook.

The music was largely taken from an abandoned project in which I tried to create music without using instruments or, alternatively, by processing existing recordings of my own to the point of being irrecognisable. I think I was aiming at an imagined halfway point between Organum and Coil's ElpH project.

A Bandcamp page and an e-mail were set up and all 6 releases were completed and uploaded over a couple of days. The Theory Of Obscurity proved reliable and frosthole disappeared into the digital wastelands, after which, I genuinely forgot about the whole thing. Just as well; the 7th release would have been a pointless track by track digital crushing of a very well known 28-song double album from the late 60's. In the weeks that followed, I completed "isola" instead and just went on from there.

Listening again, I actually really like this music; there is something haunted about the whole project and a single mindedness that maybe hits the wrong side of perverse once or twice but, hey, that's a character trait more than anything else. The "saturday morning" EP could have been better but otherwise, I was happy.

The tracks are all still in mono - because that notion was embedded from the start, no stereo files were stored. I think some of the pieces never existed in stereo, actually.

So, that's frosthole then.

She might be back sometime...

Editors note:

Although compiled as a single download, it is probably best listened to as 6 EPs - I found it hard going in one sitting.

tracks 1-4: "unsleep" - released 14th February 2015

tracks 5 & 6 - "princess" - released 14th February 2015

track 7 - "green / antichrist (god) remember" - released 14th February 2105

tracks 8-11 - "saturday morning" - released 15th February 2015

track 12 - "frosthole" - released 15th February 2015

tracks 13-16 -"the last violent outburst of a dead star" - released 16th February 2015

The release date for this collection matches the last original upload and has been selected for chronological purposes rather than factual accuracy.
